Biting my tongue
Every time I am outraged by someone's words, whether it's in a public forum or a private email, I am reminded of that speech in one of my all-time favorite movies:
"You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours."
- President Andrew Shepherd, from The American President (1995)
I take a deep breath, then exhale slowly, all the while visualizing all the negative energy leaving my body together with my breath.
At least it's less bloody than biting my tongue.
